The purpose of the Association for Written Language and Literacy (AWLL) shall be the advancement of the study of writing and to enhance communication and cooperation between researchers from different fields of writing research primarily in Europe but also elsewhere in the world. The Association brings together researchers from different disciplines such as the fields of theoretical, historical and computational linguistics, psycholinguistics and language acquisition and education.

Public activities:
The organization of biennial workshops.
The publication of presentations in special issues of the journal Written Language and Literacy.
